Real Man Show 22 - 2010/07/31

It has been a wonderful day when I joined the Real Man Show 22 yesterday. Seeing hundreds of fantastic completed models has been a great time, not to mention we have a great time chatting with old friends who we always meet twice a year.
Here are some highlights from the event.

Yamaha YZR-M1 2009 (8)

Update on the front forks.
Since the front wheel fender was an entirely new design in 2009 season, the 2005 front fork set is not fully applicable as replacement. Some work has to be done here to convert it for this ride.

Yamaha YZR-M1 2009 (7)

A tiny step further on the engine, where I have found that Top Studio has really paid attentions to how the modelers will be enjoying their transkit!

Here is a simple comparision between the 2005 990cc engine with the modified 2009 "800cc" engine. Several additional parts are in place, all at top quality!

At this little cover, this is where the attention to use friendliness are remarked! The original cap has to be cut and it appears to be a hole left on the injection part. And the resin replacement has the exactly same shape to fit into this hole to ease assembly! Brilliant details!

And so, I have the engine test fitting onto the frame and the whole thing looks more like a bike now.

Yamaha YZR-M1 2009 (6)

Today, I have got some after-market parts to add to this kit. A couple of aluminium rods to match with the suspensions from T2M.

And I have also start building up the engine. A few resin parts from the TS transkit are to be added to the engine.

Porsche 911-996 GT3 (5)

Finally, this is done with no enhencement, a simple Out-of-box build.
I has been a really quick build despite it took about 2 months. But it was already a comparatively simple one for me.
But I still look forward to the Fairlady which I was doing at the same time as this GT3.

Yamaha YZR-M1 2009 (5)

Further work on the frame, as those particular holes at the main support has been relocated at a bit lower position, I have to work that out with the electric drill again. Further surface work has been done before the frame was primed with #1200 surfacer.

The rear swingarm was adjusted a little bit on its width so the resulting frame was able to hold the rear cowling much better.

Yamaha YZR-M1 2009 (4)

There are several minor corrections to be made on the frame itself. So before jumping into other parts, some works have to be done on the frame first.

First, the curve on the frame has been streamlined, starting from the center part down to the rear end. So, some sanding work has been done.

Then it comes to the hinges mounting the rear chassis where the screw sets are half-exposed. A few tiny plastic sheets has been inserted to rebuild the exposed part. And the circular indented parts were drilled carefully with electric drill.

Back there at the inside, the Epoxy putty was smoothened and the frame is now getting into shape. Further sanding work are to be done before I will get to other parts of the bike.

Yamaha YZR-M1 2009 (3)

Stealing about 30 minutes before bed time, I have managed to fill up the space from the inner wall of the chassis for both 08 and 09 M1s. Hopefully I will have time to wrap them up in the coming weekend so progress can move on quickly with no more tedious putty work.
